Guy Sebastian
At 28 years old Guy Sebastian is already widely recognized as having one of Australia’s greatest voices.
Guy’s first solo single, ‘Angels Brought Me Here’, debuted at number one on the ARIA charts and was the fastest-selling Australian single in history, cementing him as one of the country’s greatest singers and performers. The smash hit single also reached number one in four Asian countries and New Zealand, with Sebastian subsequently invited to sing as a guest at American Idol in 2004.
His debut album, Just as I Am, dominated with record breaking sales. Sebastian’s success carried over to his second album, Beautiful Life, which gave audiences a clearer perspective on his work post-Idol. Beautiful Lifewent double platinum, producing the number one single 'Out With My Baby' (2005 MTV AVMA for Best Pop Video) and a sell-out live tour. In September 2006, Sebastian released his third album Closer to The Sun, which reached platinum status and spawned three singles.
Sebastian returned to television in 2007, partnering three-time Olympic swimmer Sarah Ryan on the Seven Network’s celebrity singing competition It Takes Two. He also took home the publicly-voted Fave Aussie gong at the Nickolodeon Kids Choice Awards for a third consecutive year before heading to the US to record his fourth album, The Memphis Album.
Recorded in the title town, The Memphis Album was a collection of soul hits from the Stax Record label, using many of the track’s original musicians, including Blues Brothers Steve Cropper and Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn. The Memphis Album sold more than double platinum, earning Sebastian his third ARIA Highest Selling Album nomination and a ‘Best Tour and Live Performance’ Helpman Award nomination for the accompanying tour.
Last year, Sebastian returned to the US to record his fifth studio album, Like It Like That, featuring John Mayer in four songs and a duet with American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. The title track became Sebastian’s fourth number one single upon its release, putting Sebastian as Australia’s third best single chart topper this decade after Kylie Minogue and Delta Goodrem. He also comes in second to John Farnham for the most number one ARIA singles in ARIA chart history for Australian solo male acts. Sebastian is the recipient of two Australian Club Industry awards to date, including the prestigious ‘Outstanding Performer of the Year’ in 2008.
In 2010 Guy relocated to Los Angeles to prepare for the release of his album - Like It Like That - in the US.
Aside from his music, Sebastian is an official ambassador for World Vision, the Red Cross and The Golden Stave. He gives his time freely for countless other charities, children’s hospitals and people in need.
